Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

I can not install Sancron Ringtones applications to my SD card. "Couldn’t install on USB storage or SD card" error message appears despite the ample available space on the internal phone memory as well as the SD card storage.

Answer:

As discussed in various Android forums, this is a know issue with Android. A temporary file “smdl2tmp1” that is created during the installation process. If the installation gets interrupted, the temporary file does not get deleted properly. The next time the installation runs it can’t create the file and instead gives the installation error.

The solution is to manually delete the “smdl2temp1” file which is likely to reside in the following locations:

1. /sdcard/.android_secure: this is an invisible folder on your SD card, which you can access with any file manager, like ASTRO

2. /mnt/secure/asec/: access to this folder requires root and a program like Root Explorer

Note: You can try to mount your android device via USB and navigate to the folder and delete the file from your PC.

Once the file was deleted, everything should be back to normal with application installs and updates.

Question:

I can download the ringtone apps, but the installation fails.

Answer:

Sometimes your phone has trouble updating apps that are installed to the SD card, even if they're apps that are allowed to be there. Our apps prefer to be installed on the SD card automatically –if SD card exists-, this might be the cause of your error.

The easiest way to fix this is to just unmount your SD card before updating those apps. So, if you start getting errors, head into Settings > SD Card & Phone Storage and hit Unmount SD Card. When it's fully unmounted (it'll take a second), go ahead and re-update your apps from the Market. They should reinstall just fine (though you may have to search the Market for the app if it isn't on your Downloads page). You'll then have to re-mount the SD card and move the app over again using App 2 SD.
